Tutoring and Enrichment Program

Joey's classroom logoChildren hospitalized at HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital have access to tutoring, academic support and developmentally appropriate enrichment activities in Joey's Classroom, a program sponsored by HSHS St. John’s Foundation and Horace Mann.

Tutors are available Monday through Thursday from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. to work with patients age four through seniors in high school.

For children under age four the tutors provide developmentally appropriate stimulation at a time when young children need it most. The tutors are retired teachers who volunteer their time through the hospital’s samaritan (volunteer) and child life specialist programs.

Resources include iPad applications, workbooks and worksheets by grade level, flashcards, books, games, art/craft supplies and prepared learning kits.
